What is the maximum amount that can be borrowed in a mortgage loan?
The maximum loan amount is determined first by the loan-to-value  ratio. The concept of loan to value refers to the relationship between the amount of the mortgage and the purchase price of the property (or valuation if it is lower). Non-residents purchasing a second home can borrow up to 70% of the purchase price (or valuation if less). For tax residents in Spain (those who pay Spanish taxes) the maximum mortgage is up to 80%. Bear in mind that most Spanish banks offer tax resident conditions when a reasonable time has elapsed since taxes began to be paid in Spain.
